Remember how I mentioned that Empire of the ‘B’s, the volume about B-movie producer Charles Band to which I contributed, wasn’t available at Amazon yet? That’s because it’s not gonna be. Hemlock Books, the publisher, has decided not to market the book through any online retailer, citing the high discount those retailers expect. I am disappointed by that decision — it seems to me that any setback due to said discounts are more than offset by the numbers that would sell through the biggest (and, for many bookbuyers, only) retailer in the world, and certainly other small presses are thriving through Amazon — but it’s not my decision. So if you want to get your hands on the definitive book on the Empire Pictures era, your choices are to buy it direct from the Hemlock site, or, if Charles Band restocks after having sold out of his first 100, from FullMoonStreaming.com.
