Ah, the best laid plans: Last year, for the first Steamfest, 600 attendees were expected; 1200 came. This year, 1200 were expected; roughly 600 came. Part of it was probably the change of venue from downtown SLC to a conference center in Layton, about fifteen miles north into Davis County. We in Davis are used to leaving our backyards for everything down in SLC, but I think there are some Salt Lakers that fear stepping out of the metro area because heere there be dragones.
Nevertheless, a good time to be had, and plenty of admirers for my curious wonderments (even though the spiderhead only attended on Friday — I had a little mishap taking him home that night, so he needed some repairs).
Bonus: I spent my time at my Artists Alley table sketching. At first they started out as ideas for future creatures and constructions, but somewhere near the end they just became outlandish thingamabobs. Here’s a thumbnail gallery!
