This one isn’t going to show up at the gallery. There’s a benefit auction tonight to buy new camping equipment for the Young Men and Young Women youth groups at the church (their current tents are military surplus that’s older than most of the leaders), and this is what I finished yesterday specifically for that.
I had actually begun something else for the auction weeks ago, but the more I worked on it and added stuff I like — eyeballs, fossil shark teeth, tentacles — the less it looked like something that anyone in our congregation would pay money for. (As it is, I’m going to put a minimum bid on this so that if it doesn’t sell for a respectable sum, I’ll just buy it back and take it to the gallery after all.)
Sunday Addendum: As feared, I got no bids at all in the silent auction. (Knowing that was a possibility, I put this art in the silent auction rather than the live auction to spare myself the embarrassment of crickets chirping when my piece came up.) So, it’ll be at the Pandemonium Art Gallery after all!
I’m glad you suffer no delusions about the public’s taste.
I say add a fiery eye to the middle of that cherub’s forehead.
