His character didn’t die in Ronin either. Well, I suppose his character’s credibility and self-respect died, but he walked off-screen alive.

Actually, through this movie that expectation was played with — more than once, Bean’s character was apparently killed, but was shown to have survived ten minutes later.

Yeah, that was my first thought when I saw that poster too. As Honest Trailers puts it:

“All men must die… who are in any way close to Sean Bean.”
“…every character faces constant mortal danger, but only Sean Bean dies. Gee, haven’t seen that before!”

I have actually seen at least one feature in which he didn’t die, a made-for-TV movie Jacob in which he played Esau. As in the original Biblical account, he does kind of get shafted, but does pretty well for himself in the end and is still living when the credits roll. If I hadn’t known the story from the start, though, I probably would have been wondering all the way through it “So, when’s Esau going to take his dirt nap?”
