So the last painting was really a technique test. I’ve always hated brushes — I have an ever-so-slight quiver in my hand that keeps me from making smooth strokes — and I probably hadn’t painted anything since I was in classes for my art minor, over twenty-five years ago. Also, JEES I’M OLD.
Anyway, what with Jane encouraging me to start painting for real instead of just coloring my assemblages, I had toyed with painting more like I draw, i.e., with tons of little cross-hatched strokes. That’s what that last painting was testing: whether I could make that work.
